Google Now Wants To Start Making Pixel Phones In India, According To A Report

NEW DELHI: According to sources familiar with the situation, Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., has started preliminary discussions with local suppliers about shifting part of the manufacturing of its Pixel smartphone to India.

Global electronics titans are looking to India as a manufacturing base after China’s output was hampered by stringent COVID-related regulations.

This month, Foxconn, an Apple supplier, received a proposal to begin producing iPhones in India.

Bloomberg reported that Google had conversations with Lava International Ltd., Dixon Technologies India, and Bharat FIH, the Indian division of Foxconn Technology Group.

A request for comment from Reuters was not immediately answered by Lava, Dixon, Bharat FIH, or Alphabet.
