Important Work Matters: Indian Workers Are Happy With These Things, Not Just A Fantastic Boss

In fact, the international employment and matching website just provided information on Indian workers’ job satisfaction in 2023. The results of the study provide insight into what makes workers content at work and how various circumstances affect that contentment.

According to the poll, 58% of workers feel that their jobs have a major positive impact on their general level of happiness. Furthermore, a resounding 95% of respondents believe that managers should be in charge of making sure workers are happy, highlighting the significance of leadership in creating a healthy work environment.

A noteworthy 70% of workers said they were pleased and satisfied at work, while 30% voiced some degree of unhappiness, per the data. This satisfaction is greatly shaped by the kind of job one does and other variables.

According to Indeed India’s personnel strategy adviser Rohan Sylvester, 88% of organizations that prioritize employee happiness report higher levels of satisfaction among their teams. In the end, greater work performance and engagement are fueled by this happiness, which results in long-term corporate success.

The study explores the relationship between employee satisfaction and tenure, industry, and organizational size in more detail.

Higher percentages of discontent were indicated by those with 15+ years of experience (74%) and those with 0–2 years (54%) of experience. Long-time workers could feel uninspired, while recent hires might find it difficult to blend in.

Employee satisfaction is greater in industries like FMCG (81%), IT/ITeS (81%), Consumer Durables (80%), and Retail (78%) than in industries like automobiles (59%), logistics (58%), and construction & real estate (58%), presumably as a result of stability and growth prospects.

Both small (73%) and big (79%) organizations have better employee contentment levels, while medium-sized organizations (61%) have comparatively more difficulty keeping their workers happy.

For companies looking to increase worker satisfaction:

The biggest factor is still salary/benefits (23%) followed by a great work culture and interactions (19%).

Beyond material things, workers place a high importance on the company’s growth goal (12%), philosophy and strategy (16%), and reputation (11%) as sources of satisfaction.

Workplace flexibility (11%) has a big influence on workers’ satisfaction.

What precisely causes this contentment? Workers emphasized a number of important factors:

Managers who are supportive (21%): Managers’ advice and encouragement are very important.

Meaningful Work (19%): Having a reason for doing everyday activities makes you happier at work.

Using Skills (15%): Applying skills offers fulfillment.

Acknowledgment for Work (8%): Employees are motivated by praise.

Learning Opportunities: It is valued that learning never stops.
