Maruti Suzuki Brings Back Mild Hybrid Technology For Brezza’s High-Spec Manual Trims

Recently, Maruti Suzuki made a startling U-turn by bringing back mild hybrid technology for the top-tier Brezza small SUV models.

Earlier in July of last year, the automakers made some changes to the Brezza’s specification list. According to Cartoq, Suzuki removed the smart hybrid technology from the SUV’s manual trim levels (MTs) at that time.

The CNG versions also lost a number of safety features, however all passengers now have seatbelt reminders. The business did, however, keep the mild hybrid technology available for the Brezza’s automatic versions.

Brezza’s top-tier ZXi and ZXi+ manual versions now come with an additional fuel-saving function from Maruti Suzuki. Brezza’s starting price in India is around Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). The K15C mild hybrid petrol engine, with four cylinders, powers the sub-four-meter SUV. It can generate a maximum power of 103.1 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 136.8 newton-meters at 4,400 rpm.

A manual gearbox with five speeds is mated to it. In addition to providing features like idle start/stop and torque assist, the mild hybrid technology allows the engine to recycle braking energy, which improves fuel economy.

The K series Dual Jet Dual VVT mill is credited for helping Brezza’s manual versions achieve 19.89 kmpl of fuel efficiency when the smart hybrid technology was added. With a fuel economy of 2.51 km/l, the manual ZXi and ZXi+ trims now outperform the non-smart versions, such as the Lxi and VXi MT.

Brezza’s automatic trims, Vxi, ZXi, and ZXi+ AT, with its clever mild hybrid technology, provide 19.80 km/l of fuel economy, while the CNG variants are rated at 25.51 km/kg. The 1.5L gasoline engine, which has a max torque of 121.5 Nm and 88 horsepower, powers the CNG versions.

Aside from the best engine available, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza boasts a nine-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 360-degree camera system, audio from Arkamys, wireless smartphone charging, six airbags, a single-pane sunroof, and a Head-Up Display (HUD).

The move by Maruti Suzuki to bring back the mild hybrid technology would undoubtedly make the Brezza more appealing. In the Indian market, the Brezza is now up against other small SUVs including the Nissan Magnite, Mahindra XUV300, Renault Kiger, Tata Punch, Tata Nexon, and Hyundai Venue.
