The children of Sugandha Hiremath, the younger sister of the chairman and managing director of Bharat Forge, Sameer and Pallavi, filed a civil petition in a Pune District and Session court on March 20, alleging that the group is a Hindu undivided family and that they are entitled to the firm’s assets.

About a year ago, Sugandha filed a petition in the Bombay High Court against Baba Kalyani and his family in March 2023, requesting the enforcement of a 1994 family settlement that gave them control over the pharmaceutical and biotech company Hikal. This is the most recent case to be heard in the Pune court. Sulochana Kalyani, the matriarch of the group, passed away a few weeks before to Sugandha’s relocation.

The HUF’s eight listed firms, including Bharat Forge, have a market valuation of nearly Rs 69,000 crore, according to some estimates, while the petition itself acknowledges that they are ignorant of the full extent of the assets and properties owned by the group.
