Xbox Series X Digital Edition is being developed, according to leaked photos

Microsoft is getting ready to launch a new white-colored digital version of its Xbox Series X system that does not have a disc drive. It is anticipated that this new console will be a less expensive variant of the existing black Xbox Series X and could have a few small internal improvements. Multiple sites have acquired leaked photographs and documentation that indicate the console might be available on store shelves as early as this summer.

A website that covers gaming news, Exputer, claims that the white Xbox Series X Digital Edition has the same appearance as the black model but lacks the disc drive. The Xbox Series S is anticipated to have the same “robot white” finish. Although Microsoft hasn’t yet made an official statement on the matter, the leaked papers that The Verge was able to access confirm the veracity of the leaked images.
The $499 retail price of the basic Xbox Series X may be reduced by $50 to $100 when the white Xbox Series X Digital Edition becomes available in June or July. Upgrades to internal components, such a bigger heatsink for better cooling, are also anticipated.

It seems that Microsoft may have delayed or altered its plans for a more substantial Xbox Series X upgrade in light of the announcement of this new digital-only device.
The unexpected console update, codenamed “Brooklin,” was anticipated to have a more cylindrical shape, come without a disc drive, and come with a new controller and Xbox Wireless 2 connection, according to previously disclosed papers relating to the FTC v. Microsoft lawsuit from last year. Microsoft had originally intended to launch the Brooklin console in November for $499.

In September, Xbox Chief Phil Spencer addressed the Brooklin leaks and made hints about possible alterations to the company’s hardware plans. “It is hard to see our team’s work shared in this way because so much has changed, and there’s so much to be excited about right now, and in the future,” Spencer said in a post on X (previously Twitter). When we’re ready, we’ll reveal the actual plans.”
The launch of a white, digital-only Xbox Series X may allow customers a more cost-effective way to play next-generation games without requiring physical discs. Additionally, because the PS5 Digital Edition has been accessible alongside the disc-based version since the consoles’ November 2020 debut, Microsoft may find it easier to compete with Sony.
