For First Time, The Sensex Crosses 70,000 Level

New Delhi: On Monday morning, the equity market saw a surge, as the BSE Sensex broke over 70,000 for the first time. The Nifty increased by 42.15 points to 21,011.55, while the Sensex began at 70,024.52, up 201.43 points.

The biggest gainers were IndusInd Bank, ONGC, Coal India, HCL Technologies, and UPL; the laggards were Dr. Reddy, Asian Paints, CIPLA, Sun Pharma, and Maruti.

Asian stocks were neutral on Monday, after Wall Street’s 20-month high. This week will bring important U.S. inflation data as well as the Federal Reserve’s year-end rate decision.As oil prices increased to somewhat offset their significant declines in previous months, U.S. futures fell.

The Shanghai Composite fell 0.6% to 2,952.57, while the Hang Seng in Hong Kong fell 2% to 16,012.42.
