After 20 years, the Toby Maguire and Kristen Dunst film Spider-Man 2 is rereleased, setting a record for the second-highest box office receipts

Two decades after its first release, on April 22, Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 2,” starring Tobey Maguire and Kristen Dunst, enjoyed a spectacular re-release in theaters.
The highly anticipated ‘Spider-Man’ sequel made a stunning $805,000 from 467 theaters nationwide, winning over viewers with its heartwarming story. The movie received positive reviews from audiences, which contributed to its average $1,700 box office receipts.

 

The fervor surrounding the re-release of “Spider-Man 2” contributed to the film’s second-highest box office collection position at the North American box office, just behind Alex Garland’s “Civil War,” according to statistics collated by The Numbers.The movie, which had Kristen Dunst in the major role as well, brought in $925,000.

The new horror hit “Abigail” followed closely after, placing third with a total of $742,000. “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” and “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” completed the top 5.

A major turning point in the history of film is reached with the return of Raimi’s Spider-Man series, which also happens to be Columbia Pictures’ centennial year. Over the course of eight weeks, Sony Pictures Entertainment reportedly intends to rerelease each of its eight live-action “Spider-Man” films on Mondays. The release of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in June will bring the celebrations to a close and complete an amazing voyage throughout the cosmos.

With six more movies scheduled for big-screen distribution, Sony has made an astounding $1.5 million from the combined re-releases so far.

In the 2021 blockbuster “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” the ensemble cast of “Spider-Man 2,” headed by Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker, Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus, Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin, and J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, reunited on screen. Their cameos in the cosmic narrative helped the movie achieve incredible box office success and earn an estimated $1.92 billion, securing its place in history.
