Beyoncé is returning to the MTV Video Music Awards after an eight-year absence

The singer-songwriter Beyonce will take the stage at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, which will commemorate its 40th anniversary in September.

The “Cowboy Carter” hitmaker will perform on its stage for the first time since 2016, according to Mirror.co.uk.

She took home eight prizes and gave a 16-minute Lemonade medley performance back in 2016.

Despite receiving nominated for VMAs in 2018, 2020, and 2021, the 42-year-old chose to tour with Renaissance last year rather than grace the ceremony with a presence.

According to a source, Beyoncé “is a huge get for the VMAs and will be a huge ratings draw.”

“At present, she is determining the format of her appearance—whether it will consist of a single song or a tribute, a la her closing act from 2014, when she won the esteemed Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.”

“Because it’s such a big year, the ceremony wants to reclaim some of its prestige so artists like Dua Lipa, Muni Long, and Billie Eilish will be given priority treatment while reality TV stars from some of the more lowbrow shows and TikTok will have had a harder time gaining entry,” the insider stated.
