DC Will Release A New Animated ‘Watchmen’ Film In 2024
The Continental, Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match, and most recently, a new Watchmen animated film, which was announced by DC and is set for a 2024 release, have all been revealed at the San Diego Comic Con.
The announcement was made during a screening of “Justice League: Warworld,” and DC went on to say that “Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths” and a new “Watchmen” adaption would both be released in 2019.
The comic book was adapted into a live-action film by director Zack Snyder in 2009, and a 2019 sequel series followed.
In 2017, it was reported that there will be an animated version of “Watchmen,” and now DC has unveiled the new logo.
With its dark tone, realistic approach, and violent nature at a time when DC was experiencing a very campy nature, “Watchmen,” written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons, revolutionized comic books and later superhero shows and movies. It was published in 1986 along with other DC graphic novels like “The Sandman,” “V For Vendetta,” and “The Dark Knight Returns.”
The comic’s official summary states: “Rorschach, a half-psychotic vigilante, must persuade his middle-aged and retired ex-teammates that he has discovered a scheme to kill the surviving superheroes – along with millions of innocent bystanders. Will the remaining members of the Watchmen be able to stop the end of the world even once they reunite?
The new animated films are anticipated to only be available on home video and will likely join DC’s only live action film, “Joker: Folie a Deux,” which is a musical that, oddly enough, is scheduled to open in cinemas on October 4, 2024 with Joaquin Phoenix playing the Joker and Lady Gaga playing Harley Quinn.
There are no known facts regarding the upcoming movie, other than the fact that it will be an adult-animated picture, which makes sense considering the dark and violent character of the comic. Snyder’s own live action movie, which was closely based on the source material, will serve as inspiration.
