In Euphoria Season 3, is Zendaya’s metamorphosis expected?

A fresh source seems to suggest a significant shift that will occur in the forthcoming third season of Euphoria, the popular series on HBO. After the strikes that affected writers and performers in the previous year, fans have been anxiously awaiting word on the whereabouts of their favorite characters.

There has been conjecture for some months that the next season would showcase a temporal leap, with characters transitioning from high school to adulthood. Variety says that HBO has given writer Sam Levinson carte power to move the plot of Euphoria outside of high school. Although it was originally planned for filming to start shortly, the company announced a postponement, giving the cast—which includes Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, and Jacob Elordi—time to look for other performing roles.

HBO execs were not pleased with the adjustments Levinson had made when he delivered his revised screenplays in the beginning of 2024. Particularly disappointing to them was a revised plot for Rue, Zendaya’s character. Rue originally had a subplot in which she was a private investigator, but HBO rejected the concept because of that. The actress then offered an alternative scenario in which Rue—now a young, sober woman—becomes a surrogate for a pregnancy. Insiders, however, believed that the general tone of the program was not reflected in these new scripts. HBO explored a number of possibilities due to these creative differences, including Levinson quitting Euphoria, but the crew is determined to finish the series with the original showrunner.

There are also rumors that Zendaya, in addition to HBO, expressed disapproval of Sam Levinson’s suggested ideas for season 3, prompting him to make many changes to the scripts. According to reports, the studio thought Levinson’s first idea had potential, particularly the intriguing scenario and stories for Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi. But once the WGA strike was over and finished screenplays were sent in, they didn’t fit Zendaya’s persona. The young girl, who plays Spider-Man, gave Levinson some suggestions for Season 3 despite the fact that she is unable to reject the scripts. According to sources, things moved even more slowly when producer Kevin Turen and actor Angus Cloud passed away, at which point Levinson reportedly started rewriting the screenplays.

Reports state that Zendaya has not yet read the new scripts by Levinson. Nonetheless, there are rumors circulating that a third season of Euphoria may still happen. HBO has released the cast’s itinerary for the remainder of 2024, however in order to start shooting in 2025, they must be present by October 1. As opposed to the previous seasons, the third season’s eight episodes could not even air since just six are scheduled to be filmed.
