Review of The Idea of You: Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine’s Chemistry Turns Up the Summer Heat

Review of the movie The Idea of You: Summer is finally here, and with it come mangoes and a ton of romantic summertime tales. This year, Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine have ushered in the summer romance season. The Idea of You is a lighthearted romance drama starring actors. The Idea of You, which is based on Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name, has everything a summer romance might want.

The Idea of You centers on single mother, Solène (Anne), an art curator, as the teaser has previously made clear. Solène travels to Coachella to see her daughter perform with August Moon. She meets Hayes Campbell (Nicolas) by chance when she enters one of the members’ vanity van while blissfully ignorant of the gang. Before you know it, Hayes and Solène are flirting, and he even stops by her gallery to see her. Sparks are flying everywhere in the vehicle.

When the two kiss at Solène’s house and he invites her to travel with the band around Europe, things become hot and bothered. Initially hesitant, Solène eventually gives in to her feelings and they begin a sensual, covert romance. But when news of their connection escapes to the public and Solène and her family become targets of online harassment, things take a tragic turn.

The Idea of You, which will soon be available on Amazon Prime Video, is a delightful and light movie. Michael Showalter, the director, is aware that he has two attractive characters and two individuals on film who don’t really “need” a spouse in life but don’t mind having one. Using these dynamics, the director creates one of the most attractive couples of the year. When you wake up from their love story, it seems like a dream.

The Idea of You does well in the romance department but struggles in the subplots. Ella Rubin, who plays Solène’s daughter, has a significant role in the movie. However, the writing prevents her from taking center stage when it matters most. This influences the last twist’s blow. Additionally, I wish there had been a couple more band performance segments in the film. It would have given the story’s musical foundation a little more flavor. However, Siddhartha Khosla’s musical compositions are pleasing to the ear.

Even if the second part of the writing seemed a little haphazard, Anne and Nicholas’ amazing chemistry made up for it—and in a big way! In each scene, Anne served as a reminder of her exceptional acting talent. She carries the movie so well that she shines throughout. Even with Anne being such a strong performer, Nicholas can hold his own. Nicholas’s performance was made possible by his character journey. Anne and Nicholas lit the screen together. Thanks also to Jim Frohna, who does a great job capturing their relationship in the movie.

In summary, The Idea of You is a great movie to watch on a Saturday night with a tub of ice cream for a date or ladies’ night out.
