The Nepotism Debate: Alia Bhatt Reveals Being Defensive: “I Work Hard, So Why The Question?”

Alia Bhatt is a well-known name in the entertainment world and is praised for her outstanding acting talent. A string of outstanding performances during her storied career have cemented her status as a top performer. Her experience as a famous child made her an active participant in the nepotism debates. Alia recently said in an interview that she first took a defensive attitude when the topic of nepotism was brought up, but with time she grew to recognize the benefits her heritage had provided her.

As she said in an interview with InStyle Australia, “I was conscious that my family was in the movie business so I naturally was also more drawn towards it, but it’s not like my father ever talked to me like, ‘Oh, the day you want to act, we will offer you this movie’. He never mentioned it. Never. My mother suffered as an actress, in reality. Few individuals are aware of this. Despite being married to a director and producer, she felt that she wasn’t getting enough acting work and was constantly seeking for more. Even if I don’t succeed as an actor, I’ll find a way to just appreciate that desire. I’ve always been unsure. It’s not like anything was ever certain.

“My first reaction to that was extremely defensive,” she said, “because I just felt like, you know, I work hard so why the question? However, I believe that when you become older and realize that there are many others who struggle, you may make a case for appreciating my head start and the simpler route I took to enter the room.

On the job front, Alia Bhatt most recently appeared with Gal Gadot in “Heart of Stone.” She made her Hollywood debut with the movie.
