Urmila Matondkar is a “Soft Porn Star,” as Kangana Ranaut explains, since “she is very comfortable.”

On Sunday, the BJP declared Kangana Ranaut’s candidature from Mandi, in her home state of Himachal Pradesh. In a Wednesday conversation at the Times Now Summit 2024, the actor-turned-politician spoke about the controversy surrounding her earlier “soft porn star” jibe at Urmila Matondkar. “Actresses are comfortable calling themselves Tandoori Murgi, Sheila Ki Jawani, or item girl,” the speaker said.

Regarding the comment directed against the “Rangeela” actor, Ranaut said, “I’m not defending anything. Why is it deemed offensive if these actresses feel at ease using terms like “item girl,” “tandoori murgi,” and “Sheila ki Jawani”? In actuality, why would you want to humiliate them if they are okay with this? My own opinion is that because Urmila Matondkar is so at ease in that position, I had no intention of embarrassing her.

Using Sunny Leone as an example, Kangana frankly said that porn actresses in India are highly regarded. Tell me, are the termssoft porn’ and ‘porn star’ offensive? Not at all! These are not derogatory words. It’s just a socially unacceptable term. There is no other place in the world where porn stars get the kind of respect they do in India—just ask Sunny Leone,” she said.

“I was asked to respond to Urmila ji’s (Matondkar) question on the BJP’s consideration of me for a political career. That was the question she posed. I think that art may be found in several domains. Another kind of art is sensational art, or what we term “massy art,” which only titillates or physically excites the viewer. But, with reference to her remarks on Urmila, Kangana said, “That can never be superior to the art that is intellectually motivating, one that stimulates your mind.”

“In my opinion, I am a member of that tribe of well-rounded movie artists. I’m not very good with item numbers. All I said, however, was that I had a more stunning body of work if she could join a party (the Congress) with her sort of cinematography. Kangana continued by questioning why a porn star is more socially acceptable than a prostitute. Why do we see prostitutes with such disdain but we socially accept porn stars? Is it because their income is higher? due to their glamour? She said, “We don’t treat prostitutes the same as porn stars.”

What Was Kangana’s 2020 Remark Regarding Urmila Matondkar?
In a stunning 2020 interview with Times Now, Kangana—who had just denounced a terrible message posted by a Congress legislator against her—made a comment against Urmila. “I saw one very derogatory interview given by Urmila Matondkar,” the woman said. The way she was speaking about me, pulling faces, making fun of my hardships, and criticising me for attempting to curry favour with the BJP in exchange for a ticket. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that, in my experience, obtaining a ticket is not very difficult. Soft porn star Urmila. Since her acting is clearly not her forte, what else is she well-known for? for properly handling soft porn. Why wouldn’t I get a ticket if she could?

In an NDTV interview in 2020, Urmila Matondkar—who had entered politics in 2019 as a Congress candidate for the Lok Sabha and subsequently joined the Shiv Sena—attacked Kangana for making fun of senior star Jaya Bachchan. In a 2020 address to Congress, Bachchan had already opposed the film industry being “tarnished.”
