Delhi Sees An Increase In Dengue Cases: 5 Ways To Prevent This Bone-Breaking Fever

Dengue cases have increased in the National Capital as a result of the current monsoon in various regions of the nation. The most recent data from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi states that as of July 28, there were 243 dengue cases in Delhi. The danger of dengue has risen because of floods in several areas of the nation. The most typical symptoms of dengue, a viral illness transferred by mosquitoes to humans, are high fever, headache, body pains, nausea, and rash.

The signs of dengue

The severe symptoms of dengue, which frequently appear after the fever has subsided, include severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, rapid breathing, bleeding gums or nose, fatigue, restlessness, blood in vomit or stool, extreme thirst, pale and cold skin, and a weak feeling, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

How Might You Avoid Dengue?

Prevention is preferable than treatment. Increased breeding grounds, inadequate vector control efforts, and inadequate use of personal protective measures against mosquito bites, according to Dr. Monalisa Sahu, Consultant Infectious Diseases, Yashoda Hospitals Hyderabad, have all contributed to the rise in dengue cases.

  1. Health

A big part of avoiding vector-borne infections is hygiene. Keep your immediate area dry and spotless. Avoid keeping water in various locations around your home since this can provide mosquitoes a place to nest.

2. Storage of Water

People need to be more aware of the mosquito breeding sites in their surroundings, says Dr. Sahu. Tyres, coconut shells, clay pots, coolers, and other storage containers should not be allowed to retain water; instead, they should be disposed of or treated with pesticides.

3. Personal Safety

Personal protection has a crucial role in the prevention of dengue. To avoid dengue, Dr. Sahu advises using coils, repellents, and long sleeves of clothing to cover any exposed skin. He also advises sleeping under mosquito nets.

4. Manage mosquitoes in and around your house

Use screens on your home’s windows and doors to keep mosquitoes outside and fix screen gaps to avoid the spread of dengue. Dr. Sahu advises emptying and cleaning anything that collect water, such as tires, buckets, planters, toys, pools, birdbaths, flowerpots, or garbage cans, once each week. You can also flip them over, cover them, or toss them away.

5. Information

Any deadly condition may be prevented in large part by raising awareness. One should be knowledgeable about the disease’s causes, symptoms, indicators, risk factors, preventative strategies, and treatments. According to Dr. Sahu, it is crucial to organize health education programs about dengue disease to raise public awareness of the disease’s early symptoms. Also, educating the community about dengue can help with early diagnosis and the prevention of severe cases.
