TB claims 108 lives in Mizoram, according to official reports

According to authorities on Wednesday, 108 persons in Mizoram lost their lives to TB last year. Out of the 17,432 individuals whose blood samples were analyzed last year, 2,272 were determined to have tuberculosis.

 

Multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) was identified in 164 of the 2,272 individuals; 86% of these patients had effective treatment, however 108 patients passed away.

Of the 3,761 samples analyzed between January and March of this year, 595 persons received a TB diagnosis. Of these, 57 were discovered to be suffering from both HIV/AIDS and TB, and 38 had been diagnosed with MDR-TB. According to authorities, of the patients, 6% have diabetes, 33% smoke, and 16% drink alcohol.

With 433 cases so far this year, the Aizawl district has recorded the most TB cases, followed by Kolasib (46 cases) and Lunglei (34 cases). With five cases, the Mamit district in West Mizoram has the fewest TB cases.

Within the PM TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, only 187 individuals in the state have registered to adopt TB patients or provide donations on their behalf via the ‘Nikshay’ portal.

President Droupadi Murmu announced the effort in September 2022 with the goal of increasing community participation in order to fulfill India’s promise to abolish tuberculosis by 2025, one year ahead of the worldwide objective of 2030.
