Ambedkar’s tallest monument outside of India will be unveiled in the US on October 14th

According to the organizers, B R Ambedkar’s tallest monument outside of India will be inaugurated in Maryland on October 14. He was the primary architect of India’s Constitution.

The Ambedkar International Centre (AIC), which is being constructed on a 13-acre plot of land in the Maryland community of Accokeek, some 35 kilometers south of Washington, includes a 19-foot monument known as the “Statue of Equality.”

According to the AIC, this is the biggest statue of Babasaheb outside of India and was put as a part of the Ambedkar Memorial being built at this facility.

Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, better known to his devotees as Babasaheb, was born on April 14, 1891, and served as the head of the Constituent Assembly’s most significant Drafting Committee, earning him the title “Architect of the Indian Constitution.”

He served in the first Cabinet of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru after independence as the Minister of Law and Justice. Ambedkar was a crucial figure in social movements that battled for the rights of untouchables and Dalits.

Ambedkar passed away on December 6, 1956, a few months after he accepted Buddhism on October 14, that same year, which also happened to be the day the monument in Maryland was unveiled. Ambedkarites commemorate October 14 as Dhamma Chakra Parivartan Din.

Ram Sutar, a well-known artist and sculptor, created the statue. Ram Sutar also created the statue of Sardar Patel, known as the Statue of Unity, which was put on an island in the Narmada, a short distance downstream from the Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujarat.

It said that a sizable contingent of Ambedkarite movement officials and his adherents from the USA and other countries were anticipated to attend the event.

The AIC claims that this monument would promote Babasaheb’s ideas and teachings while displaying a picture of equality and human rights.

On October 14, the monument will be unveiled in front of guests from a number of nations.
