At least two people are injured as Rio police free 17 hostages held by a gunman on a bus

RIO DE JANEIRO: Brazilian police said on Tuesday that they had freed 17 hostages from a shooter who had occupied a packed bus in Rio de Janeiro for three hours, inflicting at least two injuries.
After talks with the shooter, who reportedly wanted to leave Rio after receiving threats from a gang, all hostages onboard a bus parked at one of the city’s major terminals were released, Rio police spokesperson Col. Marcos Andrade informed the media.

According to Andrade, the shooter stated he shot a hostage because he thought the person was a police officer. According to authorities, Bruno Lima de Costa Soares, 34, is in critical condition.
The bus was supposed to go to the nearby state of Minas Gerais, but it was parked in the Sao Cristovao station in the middle of the city.
While hundreds of passengers were left waiting for information on planned travel, police vehicles and ambulances were seen sitting close to the bus.
TV interviewees claimed to have heard many gunshots, which sent fear across the packed airport.
According to authorities, one injured individual was taken to a local hospital.
