China kills Lao Rongzhi, a well-known female “serial killer”

China’s infamous female serial murderer, Lao Rongzhi, was killed on Monday morning in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province in East China, according to a report by the state-run Global Times.

Between 1996 and 1999, Lao Rongzhi is said to have committed robberies, extortions, and seven murders, one of which involved a kid.

Lao was given the death penalty for her role in the killings of seven individuals, and the Jiangxi Provincial High Individuals’ Court affirmed that decision last year. Almost a year after the Intermediate People’s Court of Nanchang, Jiangxi, imposed the punishment, the top court heard her appeal in August.

Lao was given the death punishment for her involvement in the robbery and abduction acts, as well as having all of her property seized and her political rights taken away.

According to the high court, Lao and her ex-boyfriend Fa Ziying abducted people in order to extract money or property, used violence or threats to get unlawful control of other people’s property, and purposefully and unlawfully took the lives of others.

Chinese media said that Fa murdered the targets that Lao had selected at amusement locations. Lao used aliases to avoid detection for over 20 years until being apprehended in the province of Fujian in 2019. In August 2020, she was charged with three crimes: abduction, robbery, and deliberate murder.
