Hails Indian crew for prompt warning; six people who went from the bridge are thought to be dead

While US President Joe Biden and Baltimore Mayor Wes Moore praised the “all-Indian” crew of the cargo ship for the advance warning that helped save many lives before the ship rammed into a bridge pillar, bringing down the entire edifice, all six workers missing after a Baltimore bridge collapse on Tuesday are presumed dead.

The police apparently stopped all traffic before the bridge fell in response to the ship’s crew’s advanced “Mayday” warning. At the time of the tragedy, there were just eight workers on the bridge fixing potholes. All eight labourers plummeted into the ocean. Two of them were saved, while the rest are thought to be dead.

As you are all aware and have reported, personnel on board the ship were able to notify the Maryland Department of Transportation that they had lost control of their vessel. Consequently, before the bridge was damaged, the local authorities were able to block it from traffic, which surely saved lives, according to Biden.

“The ship reported a Mayday power outage. Just before the collision, traffic was stopped by bridge personnel. Moore said, “They saved many lives.” Moore said that, as a consequence, no cars were on the Francis Scott Key Bridge when it collapsed.

The Maryland State Police superintendent, Col. Roland L. Butler Jr., said on Tuesday night that the mission was shifting from search and rescue to search and recovery. When the difficult nighttime circumstances were predicted to ease, he added, divers would return to the site at six in the morning.

According to reports, inspectors discovered a fault with the ship’s equipment in June. However, a more recent inspection of the ship, known as the Dali, found no problems, according to the maritime intelligence system Equasis.
