‘Hurricane’ in Russia Causes Trees to Fall Into Campsite, Causing Eight Deaths and Ten Hospitalizations

Authorities in Russia said on Sunday that after a violent storm dubbed a “hurricane,” trees smashed onto a campground, causing eight deaths and ten further injuries.

Yevgeny Maslov, mayor of Yoshkar-Ola, said, “According to the most recent information, eight persons perished in Mari El as a result of the storm that occurred the day before.

Yoshkar-Ola is the biggest city in the Russian region of Mari El, which is situated along the Volga River’s northern bank.

Nearly 100 rescuers were removing rubble at a campground close to Lake Yalchik, according to the emergencies ministry, which also said that 27 people had been hurt altogether.

The government sent a statement on the messaging app Telegram saying that “vacationers did not consider the weather forecast.”

When the storm hit, some hundred people were tented around Lake Yalchik’s shoreline, the emergencies ministry noted.
