Israeli soldiers begin targeting Hamas locations in the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza

May 9, Tel Aviv, Israel: The Israel Defense troops said on Thursday morning that Israeli ground troops had begun an operation in the Zeitoun neighborhood in central Gaza, targeting Hamas infrastructure and eliminating terrorists.

Approximately twenty-five terror targets, including military buildings, terror tunnels, observation stations, sniper sites, and other terror infrastructure, were the focus of a series of intelligence-based aircraft attacks that started the operation.

The IDF observed several rocket launches from the Rafah region towards the Kerem Shalom border crossing throughout the course of the night. Not a single missile made it to Israeli land; they all fell in Gaza.

Four soldiers lost their lives as Hamas launched a flurry of rockets at Kerem Shalom on Sunday, forcing the closure of the bridge. Kerem Shalom is the Gaza crossing best suited to handle humanitarian assistance. Reopening on Wednesday was the crossing.

“The terrorist group Hamas is still purposefully putting Gazan citizens at risk and launching terror acts from inside residential areas in an effort to target Israeli citizens and IDF soldiers. Furthermore, the terrorist group keeps firing rockets into the Kerem Shalom Crossing from inhabited areas in the Rafah region in an attempt to strike IDF personnel and the crossing’s operation, according to the IDF.

On October 7, Hamas attacked Israeli villages close to the Gaza border, resulting in at least 1,200 deaths and the kidnapping of 240 Israelis and foreigners. Of the 132 captives still alive, around 30 are thought to be dead.
