The Nepali Congress’s call for the reinstatement of the “Hindu State” is becoming stronger

On a national level, Nepal will observe Prajatantra Diwas, or Democracy Day, while on Monday, the Nepali Congress will observe Mahasamiti Day. While this is going on, up to 22 Nepali Congressmen are pushing for the inclusion of the notion of restoring a Hindu State in Nepal on their agenda, which other members find objectionable.

The Mahasamiti Day assembly is scheduled to take place at Godavari, Lalitpur. The party’s national working committee has rejected a petition that was signed by 22 members calling for the reinstatement of the Hindu State. The cry for the restoration of the Hindu State is, however, gaining traction since 81% of Nepalese people identify as Hindu, and even the president and prime minister participate in all rites, including the just finished Basant Panchami festivities, according to an informed source.

The supporters of the restoration of the Hindu State plan to debate what they refer to as “Vedic Sanatan Hindu Rastra” on Monday, February 19. Sher Bahadur Deuba, a former prime minister of Nepal, is the head of the Nepali Congress.

On May 28, 2008, Nepal formally became a Republic. That day marked the end of the 240-year rule of the Shah Kings with the inaugural session of the constituent assembly of Nepal.

Nepal is proud of its Hindu heritage even though it is a secular state. The source said that all political parties supported this and that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamla Dahal and President Ram Chandra Poudel, who now rule Nepal, were ready to have this return to Hindu State discussed.

The Mahasamiti conference is mandated by the legislation to take place annually, however it has been postponed since the 14th general convention in December 2021 for a variety of reasons.
