The UK government disputes reports that it has taken control of Khalistani bank accounts and taken away Rs 100 crore

London: The British government has denied accusations circulating in Indian media that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak had “struck Khalistani networks” in the country and taken money out of over 300 bank accounts belonging to the Khalistani community, totaling Rs 100 crore (£9 million).
Online reports proliferated, alleging that Sunak had “in a sweeping crackdown” frozen over 300 bank accounts held by advocates of Khalistani culture in the United Kingdom.

They said that Rs 20 crore had been stolen from a Sikhs for Justice account and that Rs 100 crore had been “confiscated,” along with the examination of a further 5,000 bank accounts belonging to those who spearhead or encourage Khalistan activities.
According to one report, Sunak’s administration established a special task force to break up the financial connections of supporters of Khalistan. The task force has reportedly already “uncovered suspicious transactions across Canada, the US, Australia, and New Zealand” and has even contacted the FBI.
The UK home office was notified of these reports by TOI.”The home office does not recognise these claims,” a spokesman for the home office said.
“The UK is proud of its diverse communities, and British Sikhs contribute immensely to the strength of our society,” a government official told TOI. In the UK, extremism of any kind is unacceptable, and it is our responsibility as a government to oppose and combat violent, polarising beliefs in all of their forms.
The Sikh Federation (UK) main advisor, Dabinderjit Singh, stated:

“We had a tonne of questions when this news surfaced. We informed all those inquiring that it was most likely false information. The UK security minister, Tom Tugendhat, was alerted to it right away as a further instance of how false news from Indian media outlets is being used to support international persecution. We suspected it was phoney since the Indian and UK governments said nothing, but we have told UK lawmakers and ministers that they must denounce false information like this that only serves to injure people.
