Kochi is a doughnut nirvana

When someone brought up “Choco Brown” for the first time, I was in the middle of a substantial Korean supper. in particular, their doughnuts.

Having experienced the almost overpowering taste of the foreign cuisine, I was eager to return to something somewhat comfortable. However, after a few disappointing encounters in the past, my notion of a doughnut as a finishing treat was lacking. My friend’s ostentatiously grandiose claim that Choco Brown had the tastiest doughnuts in Kochi prompted me.

Having lived in the city for more than 30 years, I felt compelled to confront this local Kottarakkara. I had to bite the bullet, um, the bun, however, first.

I discovered young males licking their fingers under a tree canopy a little distance from Vennala’s Arakkakadavu Bridge, letting go of their masculine stereotypes. Their cheeks were discolored with chocolate. Nobody seems to mind.

The gang, sitting on their bikes and holding a chocolate bun in each hand, found themselves talking only in short bursts of “mmm.” Everyone’s attention was focused on the dripping chocolate that was now visible in the center of the bun.

Our favorite doughnuts are those from Choco Brown. Since they were already sold out, we made do with chocolate buns, which are just as delicious, says college student Arjun Pradeep.

Lovely S K and her partner, Sanjeev K M, increased the quantity of doughnuts manufactured due to the high demand. “There’s a huge demand. Most days by 5 p.m., we run out of doughnuts,” Lovely adds.

I have no idea how this four-month-old institution gained such a devoted following, particularly from Arakkakadavu, a place I had long since written off as the end of civilization. I then inquire around.

“Vaava” Kannan, who attends the adjacent Govt HSS Vennala, is certain that Choco Brown produces the greatest doughnuts in the area. Also, their costs are reasonable, making it possible for even students like us to have a bite. I come here every day to pick up some buns for tea in the evening.

What’s the key to becoming successful? Everything is created from scratch by us. Besides doughnuts, we also provide buns and breads. They are available unflavored or in three chocolate varieties: milk, white, and dark. We only get exposure via word-of-mouth,” Sanjeev claims.

“Even though we’ve only been operating here for four months. We’ve been operating for about seven years. Only a few meters distant, Choco Brown once existed in another avatar.

“At the time, we weren’t particularly successful. Probably because it was the primary route. Like we do today, there were no parking spaces there, according to Sanjeev.

The existing outlet is located on a little path that is shaded by trees. Choco Brown’s chances have undoubtedly increased as a result, but the choice to concentrate just on doughnuts and buns is probably what first popularized it.

Then, we were all about cakes. However, we were not successful. But after moving here, we made the decision to concentrate only on creams and doughnuts. Sanjeev, whose family has many bakeries and confectioneries in Maharashtra, adds, “That clicked.”

The store has just started selling masala buns, which are gradually gaining their own following. “We produce a limited quantity of them. It is often just 20–25 pieces each day. There are plans to provide tea as well. Many beg for it, Lovely continues.

Lovely maintains that the store is primarily a bakery despite its appearance as a little industrial facility. We provide doughnuts and buns in large quantities to several cafés. We sometimes accept orders from Infopark workplaces as well as other locations,” Sanjeev continues.

I ordered a dark chocolate doughnut for each of my buddies. And then we placed another order for more. Next, cream buns. We finally ordered a couple of buns to take home. My buddy from Kottarakkara was correct, I hate to say that. In all likelihood, Choco Brown is Kochi’s greatest doughnut store.
