Water supplies and revenue-generating assets are the points of dispute in the Dagshai excising effort

One point of contention in the excising effort to separate civilian areas happening in Dagshai cantonment is the division of water supplies and assets providing money to the defense authorities.

The civilian population receives water from the Military Engineer Services (MES) in accordance with the current arrangement. According to the defense officials’ recommendation, it has been agreed to keep this arrangement in place for a period of six months, charging people Rs 60.52 for every 1,000 gallons.

However, because home water is free throughout the state and business connections are billed at specified rates, state government officials have protested to this suggestion. Officials from the state administration contend that water fees shouldn’t be higher than those imposed in the neighboring civilian region.

They have insisted that South Water Spring be included in the removal process. “South Water Spring will assist the Jal Shakti Department in meeting the needs of the local population since there was no other source of water to cater to the civilians,” the authorities said.

The Dagshai cantonment’s five civilian pockets—Sadar Bazaar, Old Babu Mohalla, Tehlu Mohalla, Khacharkhana, and Kumarhatti area—are slated to be eliminated.

The locals were unsure about the benefits of the excising exercise since the defense authorities would still be the land’s owners. While state government officials believe that a shortage of unoccupied land would prevent them from developing and expanding municipal facilities, the defense authorities have also claimed control of the site.

“A proposal has been finalized by a committee headed by the Solan SDM and comprising various state government departments as well as the cantonment executive officer,” says Manmohan Sharma, the deputy commissioner for Solan.

Since taking over the schools, hospitals, etc. had financial ramifications, the plan would be sent to the state government. The plan would proceed to the Ministry of Defence for official notification if the state government gave its approval.
