1,550 pilgrims depart for Amarnath from Jammu

On Monday, a group of 1,550 pilgrims departed from the Bhagwati Nagar camp in order to go to the twin base camps in Kashmir and then on to the 3,880-meter-high Amarnath cave shrine.

Since the start of the 62-day annual pilgrimage on July 1, a record number of nearly 3.88 lakh people have so far paid respects at the shrine. On August 31, the yatra will come to an end.

According to authorities, of the 1,550 pilgrims in this tiny group to depart from the Bhagwati Nagar camp, 1,068 will complete the yatra along the customary 48-km Pahalgam track in the Anantnag district and 472 will go via the 14-km Baltal route in the Ganderbal district.

The Amarnath cave’s naturally formed ice Shiva lingam has completely melted, which is what is said to be to blame for the decline in pilgrimage.Beginning on July 1 from the twin roads of Pahalgam in the Anantnag district and Baltal in the Ganderbal district, the 62-day annual pilgrimage to the 3,888-meter-high cave sanctuary began. On August 31, the yatra is supposed to come to an end.
