A wheat glut in all of Haryana’s mandis

One of the causes of the wheat surplus in grain markets around the state is the lack of migrant labor. Only 27.58% of the acquired wheat has been removed from the grain markets, therefore, the state authorities have ordered the corresponding districts to set up more trucks and workers so that all of the procurement agencies’ storage godowns may operate around the clock.

According to the authorities and arhtiyas, a large amount of grain has arrived in the mandis as a consequence of the wheat crop being harvested in a shorter amount of time. However, the massive influx of grain into the mandis exceeded the capacity of the lifting agencies.

According to the authorities, lifting contractors and arhtiyas complained about a labor shortage when it came to loading and unloading wheat from the cars. The majority of workers doing this occupation are immigrants from Bihar. People have remained at home to participate in the election process, even though it is at its height in many districts of Bihar. All seven stages of voting are held in various districts in Bihar, according to an official, who also said that the matter has been brought up for discussion with the contractors.

There is a lack of migrant labor in the grain market, according to Pawan Garg, the previous president of the Grain Market Association, and arhtiyas. “The labor migration from Bihar to Haryana has been impacted by the elections,” he said.

The Deputy Commissioners have all received letters from the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department expressing concern over the delayed removal of the purchased foodgrain from the mandis. The arrival, procurement, and lifting data were also included in the letter. They showed that 34,30,932 MT of wheat had arrived in the mandis, of which 23,19,837 MT had been purchased. But as of last night, only 6,39,482 MT had been removed.

The letter said that rain is predicted for the next several days, which might cause harm to wheat that is lying in the mandis. It also added that it is now necessary to take specific actions to speed up the lifting process.

Additionally, it instructed the district authorities to hire transporters and arhtiyas other than authorized contractors in order to organize additional labor and facilitate the procurement agencies’ storage godowns operating around the clock.

Even worse, just 1,067 MT, or 6.6%, of the 16,176 MT of wheat that was bought overall had been lifted as of today, making the situation in Bhiwani worse. Just 8% of the wheat has been removed from the markets so far, so things are not getting any better in Hisar.
