At the Odisha Government’s pharmacy in Bhubaneswar, a major fire breaks out; the situation is under control

The Odisha State Medical Corporations (OSMC) godown at the Mancheswar Industrial estate in Bhubaneswar had a big fire that destroyed thousands of rupees’ worth of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, according to the police. Although the fire started late on Sunday night, there were no reports of any injuries.

They said that an electrical short circuit was likely what started the incident.

The Health and Family Welfare department announced on Twitter that an accident fire had started at Mancheswar MARKFED Godown Number 3 late on July 9, 2023. In this godown, certain OSMCL supplies (PPE kits, sanitizers, and empty cylinders) were kept. “The fire was contained by rapid response of police and fire services. All things are covered by insurance. There were neither deaths nor injuries.

To put out the fire, more than 50 fire officials and seven fire tenders were sent in. A fire department spokesman added that in order to prevent the fire from spreading to other structures, the emergency services had to smash through the wall to get entry to the building. The firefighters had to battle the flames all night long.

Along with the heavy smoke, a loud explosion also shook our region. An official said that empty gas cylinders kept in the godown were to blame for the explosion, adding that everything were under control this morning.
