“Bakwas Ki Hai”: Robert Vadra Demands Accountability and Rejects Sam Pitroda’s “Racist” Remark

Sam Pitroda’s “racist” remarks were refuted on Thursday by Robert Vadra, the husband of Congresswoman Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who also expressed shock that an educated person could say such things.

Vadra emphasized that Pitroda’s comment gives the BJP a chance to “raise unnecessary issues,” even though his brother-in-law Rahul Gandhi and wife Priyanka are both actively employed by the party.

“I wholeheartedly disagree with Sam Pitroda’s remarks. “Bakwas ki hai.” How could such an intelligent person utter such a thing? Vadra told news agency ANI, “He should be a little more responsible, even though he was very close to Rajiv Gandhi.”

Pitroda—a close friend of the Gandhi family—resigned from his position as Indian Overseas Congress chairman on Wednesday in the wake of an uproar over his politically incorrect comments that celebrated India’s diversity.

Pitroda commented, “We could hold together a country as diverse as India—where people on the east look like Chinese, people on the west look like Arabs, people on the north look like maybe whites, and people in south India look like Africans,” in an interview with The Statesman regarding the country’s diversity. It is irrelevant. Each of us is a brother or sister.

The interview’s video swiftly gained widespread popularity after Pitroda’s statement, garnering condemnation from a wide range of sources. A number of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) officials chastised the Congress over Pitroda’s divisive comments and called for an apology.

The grand old party was also chastised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “insulting Indians based on their colour.”

“When insults are directed at me, I can put up with it, but not when they are directed at my people. The Prime Minister said, “We will not put up with this racist mindset.”

In the meantime, Pitroda’s comments were also rejected by the Congress party. In an attempt to calm down the criticism of his party, senior Congressman Jairam Ramesh said, “The analogies drawn by Mr. Sam Pitroda in a podcast to illustrate India’s diversity are most unfortunate and unacceptable.” The Indian National Congress distances itself from these comparisons in full.
