BJP and Trinamool Square Off Over Sandeshkhali Arms Haul; TMC Writes EC Regarding CBI Raids

The Bharatiya Janata Party and Trinamool Congress got into a heated argument on Friday after discovering a significant amount of weapons and ammunition at many places in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal. The saffron camp accused the governing party of aiding and abetting terrorists operating in the state.

Chief of the BJP IT Cell Amit Malviya said that the people of Bengal are tired of Mamata Banerjee’s rule and accused the TMC of supporting rapists and providing a safe haven for terrorists.

The TMC may have realized that Bengalis are tired of their Chief Minister’s defense of rapists and efforts to make their state into a safe haven for terrorists and illicit weapons. The only booming business in Bengal is the fabrication of bombs, Malviya said.

On the day of the Lok Sabha elections’ second phase, however, the TMC denounced the CBI searches in Sandeshkhali in a letter to the chief electoral officer of West Bengal. The party claimed that the polling organization was “blinding an eye” to the activities of central investigative agencies, especially while elections were in session.

INQUIRIES POSTED BY TMC
In a letter to the poll board, the TMC questioned the necessity for stringent regulations to prevent central investigative agencies from interfering with opposition parties’ election campaigns.

They also questioned why the Bengal bomb disposal team was not called upon during the investigation and why the state police were not made aware of the CBI operation. The TMC further claimed that the searches were conducted with the intention of tarnishing Bengal’s reputation for peace and order.

The TMC also claimed that there was no way to determine if it was found during a search or was secretly held there by the CBI.

It said, “Media was fed rumors that this house was owned by TMC supporters, but nothing has been proven.”

For those who are unaware, the CBI searched two properties belonging to an associate of TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh, who is now under arrest, in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, on Friday and found weapons and ammunition, including foreign-made rifles and a police service revolver.

The investigations were related to the January assault on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team by a crowd that Sheikh, who was detained by the West Bengal Police on February 29, is said to have provoked.
