Case involving excise policies: The court declines to halt Arvind Kejriwal’s legal actions for ignoring an ED summons

On Friday, a session court denied to halt Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s case before a magisterial court over the Enforcement Department’s allegation that he disregarded a summons in a money laundering case connected to the purported Delhi excise policy scandal.

Extra Meetings Kejriwal was instructed by Judge Rakesh Syal to petition the metropolitan magistrate to be excused from making a personal appearance in this case.

at response to Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Divya Malhotra’s decision for him to appear before her on March 16, Kejriwal filed a motion at the Sessions Court.

In two complaints submitted to the magistrate’s court, the Enforcement Directorate is requesting that Kejriwal be prosecuted for allegedly ignoring many summonses that were sent to him about the matter.

According to ED, the most recent complaint concerns the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor’s failure to comply with federal investigative agency’s summonses number four through eight, which were issued under Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Kejriwal was sent with three summonses in the money laundering case related to the now-canceled Delhi excise policy, but he did not appear for them. The ED had already filed a motion before the magistrate court to prosecute Kejriwal.

The subject (pertaining to summonses no. 1 through 3) has been scheduled for hearing before ACMM Malhotra’s court on March 16 together with the other complaint.
To far, Kejriwal has ignored eight summonses from the organization.
