CJI declares September 8 as a holiday in SC in light of the G20 Summit

According to a notice released by the top court, the Supreme Court will be closed on September 8 due to Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud’s declaration of the day as a holiday on Friday due to the G20 Summit taking place in the nation’s capital.

On September 9 and 10, Delhi will host the G20 Summit. According to a notice posted on the website of the supreme court, the Chief Justice has decided to observe a vacation on September 8 in light of the office memo that was issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions on August 24.

All central government offices in the nation’s capital will be closed from September 8 to September 10 in anticipation of the G20 meeting, according to a directive released by the Personnel Ministry on Thursday. “Considering the OM… issued by the Government of India, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions (DoP&T), the Chief Justice of India has declared September 8, 2023 as a holiday for the Supreme Court of India and its registry and September 9, 2023 as holiday for the registry of the Supreme Court,” read the notification released by the top court.

“Recognizing the magnitude of this event and the substantial logistical arrangements involved, it has been decided to keep the central government offices located in Delhi closed from September 8, 2023, to September 10, 2023, on the occasion of the G20 summit to be held in Delhi,” read the order released by the Personnel Ministry on Thursday.

A number of heads of state, governments, and leaders of international organizations would attend the summit, it had noted.
