Clashes break out during the Ram Navami parade in Murshidabad, Bengal, injuring four people

During a Wednesday evening Ram Navami parade in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, skirmishes and stone-throwing resulted in at least four injuries.

During the Hindu holiday, a group was conducting a parade in the Shaktipur region when the tragedy occurred. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the head of the state Congress, has represented Shaktipur in the Berhampore Lok Sabha seat since 1999. On May 13, Berhampore will have its fourth round of elections.

The Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital in Behrampore received the injured. Afterwards, the region was subject to Section 144 prohibitory orders.

To break up the crowd, the police had to use tear gas shells and lathicharges. The police said that further personnel had been sent to the scene and that the situation had been brought under control.

The Bengal chapter of the BJP has claimed that stores were vandalized and stones were thrown during the march. Miscreants assaulted a peaceful Ram Navami parade in Saktipur, Beldanga – II Block, Murshidabad, despite the procession having all the necessary authorization from the administration. Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari stated, “It’s strange that Mamata Police joined the miscreants in this horrific attack this time around and fired tear gas shells on the Ram Devotees to disperse them and ensure that the procession ends abruptly.”

Adhikari said, “Mamata Police failed to protect the Ram Bhakts this year as well.”

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a Congress leader and member from Berhampore, paid the area a visit on Wednesday night.

“I traveled from Malda to visit the victims of the altercation. However, BJP employees held a protest at the hospital, alleging that there is an assault on Hindus, and they asked that I respond. He said, “Those who are protesting ought to question those who have to respond,” India Today added.

The setting off of riots is a predetermined strategy. The BJP protest is evidence of this. I’ve communicated with the Election Commission. The SP is there, and more soldiers have been sent to Shaktipur. The Congressman said, “I am in constant communication with the electoral commission.

The event occurred a few days after Murshidabad Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee issued a warning that rioting may break out on Ram Navami. Her comments followed the Election Commission’s dismissal of the Murshidabad district’s deputy inspector general of police due to violence and the officer’s purported “lack of supervision.”

Violence also plagued Bengal’s Ram Navami festivities last year, which resulted in a major clash between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress.
