DCP recognizes the courage of a mother and daughter team in foiling a robbery

On Friday, North Zone DCP Rohini Priyadarshini gave a mother and daughter an award for their courage in confronting and driving out two thieves who broke into their Begumpet home while armed, mask-wearing, and wearing helmets.

On Thursday, two armed men who were not recognized broke into a home in Begumpet. The mother-daughter pair received praise from online users when a video of their violent fight with the thieves went viral on social media.

DCP Rohini Priyadarshini said that the suspects made an attempt at murder in addition to their intention to commit robbery. She said that the accused had spent four days in 2022 at the residence working during Diwali. Two days before the event, they had examined the area and entered by pretending to be courier boys. Once inside, they brandished knives and weapons toward the ladies. The two defendants were taken into custody. Investigations are still being conducted.

They have been brought before the XI Criminal Court in Secunderabad for judicial remand, along with other confiscated items, including two knives, a present paper box, a tapancha weapon, ropes, and a rubber bullet shell.

Police said that on Thursday, the two came up with a plan to rob the property, chose the location, and conducted reconnaissance before trying to carry out the plot. As part of the plot, Sushil gave the home owner, Amita Mahnot, a call and told her that they had brought a courier under the name N K Jain.

So her servant descended to meet the messenger. Susil, wearing a helmet, and Prem Chandra, wearing a face mask and hat, covered their faces one by one before forcing their way into the home to commit theft. Subsequently, Premchandra, the accused, entered the kitchen and held a knife to the neck of the female servant, threatening her. As a result, the young girl and Sushil got into a fight, and Amitha intervened as well to try to stop the robbery attempt. Sushil pulled the homemade tapancha from his backpack during the altercation and attempted to gesture to the mother and daughter. Knowing a little or two about martial arts, Amita kicked Sushil and took the tapancha out of his hands.

After being struck and kicked, Sushil was able to escape the residence. Furthermore, the second individual, who was inside the home, was unaware of the situation outside. As a result, the second individual inside the home was able to be apprehended by neighbors who heard the hue and cry coming from the residence.

It is important to note that mother Amitha and her daughter both showed extraordinary bravery; yet, because of their confidence and courage, they were able to stop the theft and, with the assistance of a neighbor, apprehend one of the accused directly.
