Delhi Lok Sabha Election 2024: May 25 is Election Day for National Capital Constituencies

In 2024, Delhi will see an intense contest for the Lok Sabha seat. The Election Commission of India has released the election schedule for the sixth phase of the General Elections, which will include voting for the seven Delhi seats on May 25. June 4 is when the votes will be tallied.

Seven Lok Sabha seats are located in Delhi. North East Delhi, East Delhi, Chandni Chowk, New Delhi, North West Delhi, West Delhi, and South Delhi are these.

THE ELECTION RESULTS FOR 2019
In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won all seven seats in Delhi, making a clean sweep.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan of Chandni Chowk, Manoj Tiwari of North East Delhi, Gautam Gambhir of East Delhi, Meenakshi Lekhi of New Delhi, Hans Raj Hans of North West Delhi, Parvesh Verma of West Delhi, and Ramesh Bidhuri of South Delhi were the BJP’s victorious candidates in the 2019 elections.

But the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) went on to win a landslide majority in the 2020 Delhi Assembly Elections. In the 2020 Assembly votes, the AAP secured 62 of the 70 Assembly seats.

SUMMERS IN DELHI AND THE POLITICAL HEAT
Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election, political tensions in the nation’s capital are growing as Delhi battles the summer heat. Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, was arrested in connection with the excise policy fraud. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) detained Kejriwal on the evening of March 21 and he is still being held there.

AAP and Congress have attacked the Narendra Modi administration at the Centre, claiming that the Chief Minister’s incarceration is part of a plot to “finish the Opposition” before of the Lok Sabha elections, causing political unrest in Delhi ahead of the elections.

Kejriwal’s arrest, nonetheless, followed the arrests of other prominent Delhi ministers in connection with the scheme. The Delhi Chief Secretary reported a serious policy violation after the introduction of a new tax policy by the Delhi government in November 2021. CBI searches were conducted in August 2022 at the homes of AAP leader Sanjay Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, and other individuals.

After the ED arrested Singh and Sisodia last year, CM Kejriwal received a number of summonses, which he disregarded. The ED detained Kejriwal in March. The Delhi High Court denied him any respite, stating that the ED had “sufficient material” to make an arrest.

The Delhi CM has appealed the Delhi HC’s ruling to the Supreme Court. Kejriwal questioned the timing of his arrest, calling it “illegal” and stating that it occurred “in the middle of the election cycle and especially after the declaration of the schedule of General elections” in his plea.

While Sisodia and Kejriwal are still being held in detention, Singh was granted bail on April 3.

THE LOK SABHA ELECTIONS OF 2024
The BJP and the INDI coalition are engaged in a battle for Delhi, with the AAP vying for four seats and the Congress for three.

Praveen Khandelwal from Chandigarh, Manoj Tiwari from North East Delhi, Harsh Malhotra from East Delhi, Bansuri Swaraj from New Delhi, Yogender Chandolia from North West Delhi, Kamaljeet Sehrawat from West Delhi, and Ramvir Singh Bidhuri from South Delhi are the BJP’s candidates for the 2024 elections.

Kuldeep Kumar (East Delhi), Somnath Bharti (New Delhi), Mahabal Mishra (West Delhi), and Sahi Ram Pehelwan (South Delhi) are the four Delhi seats for which the AAP is running. JP Agarwal (Chandni Chowk), Kanhaiya Kumar (North East Delhi), and Udit Raj (North West Delhi) are the Congress candidates running in the 2024 elections.
