Farmers’ protests disrupt train service in Chandigarh

Ten trains have been rerouted via Chandigarh as a result of the current farmers’ protest, which has affected railway operations.

The city saw these developments’ knock-on effects. Due to diversions, the passengers had to go to Chandigarh in order to board their trains because they were unable to board at stations like Rajpura and Patiala.

Because of these train diversions, there was a greater rush at the local railway station than there usually is. The rush at the station was increased by travelers choosing to use the train rather than the road to go to Delhi because of the ongoing protest.

The anticipated time of train departure and arrival was also delayed as a result of the train diversions to Chandigarh. SMSs were used to notify the passengers of the diversions. But there was nothing official coming from the government.

Two trains were redirected from Ludhiana to Ambala via Chandigarh: the Amritsar-Nanded (12716) and the Udhampur-Durg (12550). The Malwa Express (12919) and Durg Jat Express (20847) used Chandigarh as a detour to reach Ludhiana from Ambala. Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-Amritsar Junction Express (11057) avoided Rajpura and Patiala, among other stops, in order to deviate from Ambala to Ludhiana via Chandigarh.

Sirhind was avoided by taking a detour via Ambala, Chandigarh, and Ludhiana on the Akal Takht Express (12317). The Amritsar Kathiar Express (15708) changed its route, skipping the stations at Khanna, Sirhind, and Rajpura in favor of Ludhiana, Chandigarh, and Ambala.
