Fearing house arrest, Andhra Congress president YS Sharmila sleeps at the party headquarters

Fearing she might be placed under house arrest, YS Sharmila, the leader of the Andhra Pradesh Congress and sister of the state chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, said on Thursday that she had to spend the night at the party headquarters.

Sharmila, who newly joined the Congress party, is seen dozing off on the floor of the Vijayawada Congress office in a video posted on “X.”

This occurs one day after she organized a demonstration against his brother’s administration over unemployment and other concerns at the Andhra Secretariat.

Speaking to reporters, Sharmila said that the problems facing young people, the jobless, and students had not been addressed by the Jagan Mohan Reddy administration in Andhra Pradesh.

She has also voiced concerns that she will be placed under house arrest by his brother’s regime.

Will you attempt to place us under house arrest if we call for a demonstration on behalf of the jobless people? In a democracy, don’t we have the right to protest? “Is it not disgraceful that, in order to avoid house arrest, I as a woman have had to flee the police and spend the night in the Congress Party office?” she wrote on X.

In an attempt to revitalize the party and its prospects ahead of the general elections, the Congress party named YS Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, as the president of the state unit last month.

Only two weeks had passed since Sharmila’s YSR Telangana Party and the Congress combined.

Elections for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and the Lok Sabha will take place at the same time. The struggle between Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRCP and N Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP, who is allied with Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena, is expected to be a bipolar one.
