“Highest Order Treason”: Digvijaya On NCP Developments

Congress veteran Digvijaya Singh has called recent events in the Sharad Pawar-led party “treachery of the highest order” in the aftermath of a split in the NCP led by Ajit Pawar.

In order to become the deputy chief minister in the Eknath Shinde-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cabinet in Maharashtra, nationalist Congress Party leader Ajit Pawar on Sunday oversaw a vertical split within the party.

Eight more NCP politicians were also sworn in as Maharashtra cabinet ministers. Sharad Pawar, the leader of the NCP, attacked the BJP on Sunday, calling the development a “robbery” rather than a “googly”.

Digvijaya Singh responded to Pawar’s remarks on Sunday in a tweet, writing, “Not just Robbery Pawar Saheb but Treachery of the greatest kind. Sad.”

Sharad Pawar responded to reporters who questioned whether the nine NCP leaders’ action was part of the BJP’s game plan or a recent “googly” he had mentioned: “It is not a googly; it is a theft. It is not a simple task. The Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) has made accusations against the party…He has now done a crucial job by clearing some of the leaders of those charges.
