Hostels at Osmania University will be open throughout summer

Following a number of students’ requests to stay in campus dorms during the summer, Osmania University confirmed on Monday that the dorms would be open for business over the break.

A day after the university was embroiled in disputes over water and electricity shortages, which sparked student protests on campus, OU Registrar P Laxminarayana issued the warning.

According to the registrar, the institution had declared summer vacation, which would run from May 1 to May 31, in accordance with the regular academic schedule.

In addition to allowing the university administration to handle any small repairs and renovations, the notice stated that historically, the period signifies a time when students temporarily leave the university residence halls to spend time with their families or participate in various extracurricular activities off-campus.

It further said that a group of students who indicated a wish to get ready for competitive exams had their official representation assessed by the university administration. After receiving representation, it made the decision to continue operating the university hostels throughout the summer break in order to serve students who wanted to remain on campus and make use of the services.
