JJP gets another shock as former MLA Satvinder leaves the party

On Tuesday, Satvinder Rana, a two-term member from Kaithal district’s Rajound Assembly seat, announced his resignation from the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP). He sent his letter of resignation from the party’s main membership to Ajay Singh Chautala, the party president.

Rana mentioned in his resignation letter the alleged mistreatment of farmers, leaders, and party employees over the previous four and a half years of rule.

“I have left the party, having served as its leading member. In a phone interview with The Tribune, Rana said, “Not only were the party workers and leaders disregarded, but the party leadership also failed to defend the interests of farmers.”

“I felt suffocated within the party, with the leadership remaining silent on it,” he said. He did not, however, reveal the future plans; instead, he said that he would contact his supporters to discuss them and make an announcement shortly.

Rana said, “An FIR was registered against me at the Samalkha police station,” referring to the complaint made against him at Samalkha for stealing from a liquor godown. My arrest was followed by my acquittal. It was a plot against me and a fabricated case.” Rana’s political career spans many decades, having run in seven elections, five on the Congress ticket and one each on the Tiwari Congress and JJP banner. On the Tiwari Congress ticket, he got his maiden MLA victory in 1996. Later, in 2005, he won on the Congress ticket. In 2019, he ran for the Kalayat seat on the JJP ticket.

With Rana’s departure, the number of important party leaders who have quit in the last two days rises. The party president, Nishan Singh, submitted his resignation on Monday. Yesterday, Kamlesh Saini, the head of the Narnaul Municipal Council and national general secretary, also tendered his resignation. The party has suffered major defeats over the last two days due to the departure of these well-known figures.
