Karnal farmers are concerned about the sluggish lifting of purchased wheat

Farmers and authorities are becoming concerned as the lifting process of bought wheat is moving slowly, even though the Deputy Commissioner (DC) has ordered a faster pace.

317,416 MT of wheat have arrived to the district’s 23 procurement centers and grain markets so far. The procurement agencies have bought 3,15,283 MT of this. The lifting procedure is the bottleneck, however, as the agencies have only lifted 93,272 MT of wheat so far, leaving a sizable backlog of 2,22,011 MT in the grain markets. The issue is exacerbated by bad weather, with rain clouds threatening.

Farmers now have to worry about bad weather on top of the difficulty of high moisture content, which is causing procurement to go slowly. The IMD has predicted rain on April 19, and farmers are concerned that this would cause a delay in the harvesting and procurement process, endangering the amount and quality of wheat that will be harvested.

DC Uttam Singh examined the preparations while visiting the grain markets in Gharaunda and Karnal. He gave the go-ahead for the lifting to proceed more quickly.
