Kejriwal eating sugar-filled meals despite having diabetes to justify being granted bail, the ED claims in court

The ED alleged in front of a judge here on Thursday that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was detained in connection with an excise fraud, was consuming sugar-rich meals like mangoes and sweets every day despite having type 2 diabetes. This was done in order to establish grounds for medical release.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) asserted this in front of Kaveri Baweja, the special court handling CBI and ED cases. Baweja ordered the Tihar prison officials to provide a report on the case, which included Kejriwal’s food plan.

Kejriwal had petitioned the court on Tuesday, requesting permission to use video conferencing to meet with his usual physician. It’s been reported that he wants to see his usual physician since his blood sugar is reportedly changing. ED was instructed by Special Judge Rakesh Syal to submit a response to the application, and today’s hearing was scheduled for that purpose.

The judge ordered the relevant authorities to provide the report by tomorrow, when the court is probably going to reopen the case.

“Arvind Kejriwal has type 2 diabetes, yet he eats meals rich in sugar. Every day, he eats sweets, mango, and “aloo poori.” The ED informed the court, “This is being done to establish grounds for medical bail.”

Kejriwal’s attorney reported to the court on Tuesday that the politician’s blood sugar was varying and had dropped to 46.

In this case, attorney Vivek Jain said, he ought to be permitted to see his physician three times a week. Additionally, Kejriwal’s legal team made an argument for why ED was against taking care of his health.

However, Special Public Prosecutor (ED) Simon Benjamin had contended that he might be tested at the jail’s facilities.

Following his ED arrest in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case, Arvind Kejriwal is now in judicial detention. Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody was prolonged by the Delhi Court on Monday till April 23 in the money laundering case pertaining to the now-cancelled liquor policy.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh, who served six months in Tihar prison in a related matter, has claimed that Kejriwal was refused access to even the most basic privileges in Tihar prison by the national government, which is governed by the BJP.

Comparably, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that he was being treated like a “terrorist” by the jail administration when he visited his counterpart in Delhi on Monday.

The prison administration is treating Kejriwal in a manner reminiscent to a terrorist. Seeing that he lacks access to amenities that ardent criminals would find depressing. Why is he at fault? When we first met, there was a glass wall separating me from him, Mann later stated.
