L-G angry at the way police handled the case at first: Puducherry rape and murder

Lieutenant Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan expressed disappointment with the way police handled the nine-year-old girl’s case in the beginning and announced the implementation of strict measures to avoid such situations in the future.

She had just chaired an emergency meeting at Raj Nivas on Thursday with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the Director General of Police (DGP).

The L-G said, “Departmental action has been taken against erring officials. The police have been advised to take such complaints seriously and act immediately.”

She went on to say that the offenders’ DNA testing are being conducted. Traces of the child’s corpse had already been discovered, despite its decomposed condition. For definitive proof, the bodily tissues are submitted for a DNA test, the spokesperson said.

Thursday saw the nine-year-old girl’s funeral procession. On Tuesday, her corpse was discovered disposed of in a sewer close to her home in Solai Nagar, Puducherry.

Tamilisai spoke of a thorough inquiry, stating that SSP R Kalaivanan’s appointment as the head of the SIT was made possible by his knowledge of the area and ability to communicate in the local language. In addition, the case would be supervised by Delhi’s highly experienced officer, DIG Sinha.

In response to the opposition’s criticism and the continuing demonstrations, she emphasized that all stakeholders must work together to overcome social concerns. Tamilisai said that anybody engaged in drug-related activities will face prompt consequences.

She also requested a prompt and comprehensive inquiry into the situation in a letter to Chief Minister N Rangasamy, as well as the participation of a Special Forensic Team. She requested that the police step up their monitoring efforts in order to stop these kinds of things from occurring.
