Laxman to Revanth: Why not get NTPC and PPA signed?

On Friday, K Laxman, national president of the BJP OBC Morcha, said that the Congress administration is not entering into a power purchase deal (PPA) with the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), similar to what the BRS government did.

In an interview with media here, he pleaded with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to prioritize energy development rather than plunge Telangana into darkness.

Laxman said that the first stage of NTPC’s thermal plant produced 1,600 MW of power. He questioned, “Why is the state government not coming forward (to sign PPA) even after allocating Rs 17,539 crore for construction of the second phase of the project?”

He said that letters dated January 9 and January 29 to the Congress government were not returned. Even after being notified that the NTPC would engage into deals with other states if the Telangana government does not answer by February 10th, the chief minister and his cabinet did not reply, he said.

The BJP leader claimed that power outages had begun before summer officially arrived and that the PPA could meet the state’s electricity needs.

Laxman said that since the former BRS administration sought commissions and went into PPAs with other businesses that paid higher rates, it failed to deliver power at reasonable costs.

He also cited Revanth’s statement before the Assembly, which said that corruption in the thermal power plants at Yadadri and Bhadradri will be revealed.

He insisted that the CM provide an explanation for his lack of action against the corrupt.

He questioned, “Why is the corruption in the Dharani and Kaleshwaram projects not being investigated?”
