Lok Sabha election: Manipur’s eleven polling places are reopening for voting

Tight security surrounds the 11 voting places in the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat where reelections are underway, authorities said on Monday.

The Election Commission’s instruction, which deemed the voting that took place at these stations on April 19 to be invalid, was followed in making the judgment about new polling.

Despite the riot-like conditions on Friday, voters have been waiting in line at all 11 polling places since early in the morning to exercise their right to vote. According to an election official, there have been no reports of disruption or violence on Monday so far.

At 7 am, the reelection got underway.

According to him, new polls are being held in the following locations: Moirangkampu Sajeb and Thongam Leikai in the Khurai constituency; Bamon Kampu and Irilbung in the Kshetrigao constituency; Khongman Zone V in Thongju in the Imphal East district; Iroishemba area in the Uripok constituency; and Khaidem Makha in Konthoujam in the Imphal West district.

The conflict-torn state of Manipur reported incidents of gunfire, intimidation, the destruction of EVMs at several polling places, and claims of booth capture on Friday. The two Lok Sabha seats, Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur, had 72% of voters come out to vote.
