Long-term sufferer in Avadi hacks to death the wife and doctor of Siddha medicine

Sunday night at their Mittanemill home in Avadi, a 72-year-old Siddha doctor and his wife were fatally hacked, according to reports, by a 20-year-old patient of the doctor’s home clinic. According to police, the suspect’s clothes still had bloodstains on it when he was apprehended on Monday.

This month, the Avadi commissionerate has recorded many crimes, the most recent of which is the double murder.

Police alleged that Mahesh, son of Tara Ram, who is from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, killed the victims in the most recent crime, Sivan Nair, an ex-army man, and Prasanna Kumari, 63.

Mahesh, who was employed at a hardware business in the same area, started going to Nair’s clinic in 2019 for a range of minor illnesses, including stomach issues, according to the police.

“Prasanna Kumari seems to have chastised him for going into the home without permission during one visit two months earlier. They would deliver the medication to him if he stood at the gate, as she instructed. A senior police officer said, “We suspect Mahesh was upset about this incident.”

“It is not possible to view the rise in crime as a trend.”

Mahesh visited the couple’s house late on Sunday night while they were alone themselves. In a fit of fury, he cut Prasanna Kumari’s neck with a knife after starting a fight with them that turned into a yelling contest. Mahesh proceeded to stab Nair as the latter tried to stop him. As per the police, the couple passed away instantly. Next to Prasanna Kumari’s corpse, police discovered a cell phone, which they used to identify the suspect. Special squads were then assembled to capture Mahesh.

“The couple has a son who is also a Siddha practitioner,” said the top police officer. He said that a few weeks before, his mother had confided in him that Mahesh’s visits made her feel uneasy. There were still bloodstains on Mahesh’s shirt when we apprehended him. There aren’t any pending cases against the accused. He will be placed in judicial detention on remand after an investigation, according to police. The Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital received the victims’ corpses for postmortem assessment.

An alleged death of history sheeter Shantakumar while in custody was reported earlier this month from the Avadi commissionerate on April 13. An unnamed gang looted a jewelry shop in Muthapudupet on April 15 at gunpoint, then on Saturday, a group savagely killed a history sheeter, severing his hands and head. When asked about the area’s apparent high crime rate, Avadi commissioner K Shankar said that the most recent wave of crimes had all been isolated occurrences. This is not indicative of a pattern. In fact, there have been fewer homicides in our area this year than there were last,” he said.
