Maximum temperatures in the Old Mysuru and Malnad areas have significantly increased

Mysuru: Residents in the Old Mysuru region and Malnad parts of Karnataka are finding it uncomfortable as the maximum temperature has significantly increased.

According to data from the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, key towns in the Old Mysuru area exceeded 39°C on Wednesday, while Bhadravathi in the Shivamogga district registered 40.1°C.
Weeks have passed during the protracted heatwave, with Talakadu in the Mysuru area recording 39.3°C.

There were also high temperatures in other districts, including Hassan, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, and Chikkamagaluru, which ranged from 37.5°C to 39.5°C.
Experts blame the low humidity in the environment for the extreme temperatures. The state saw an 89% rainfall deficit in March, with the Malnad and coastal areas suffering an 85% deficiency.
Former KSNDMC director G Srinivas Reddy believes precipitation by March 30 would contribute to two to three days of cooler temperatures, particularly in Kodagu and surrounding regions. But he cautioned that because to El Niño and dry conditions, temperatures may stay 2-3 degrees above average throughout the height of summer in April and May.

According to Reddy, international organisations anticipate that El Niño will dissipate by the end of May and that La Niña will arrive in July, bringing plenty of rain to the state. There is hope for respite from the present hot conditions due to this change in weather patterns.
The expectation of impending rain provides locals with some relief from the rising heat as the area prepares for hotter days to come.
