Mayor to abandon BRS and turn to Congress?

A number of MLAs, MPs, MLCs, and notable figures are defecting from the BRS and joining the Congress or BJP, causing the party to suffer a series of losses.

Hyderabad Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi is expected to defect from the BRS to the Congress in the near future after receiving another shock on Friday. This happened after the mayor was invited to the Congress party at her home by state AICC in-charge Deepa Dasmunsi, advisor to the government Vem Narender Reddy, and president of the DCC Khairatabad, Rohin Reddy. The mayor said that she will decide after consulting with the party and taking their views into account. Furthermore, it is anticipated that a few more GHMC BRS corporators would enter Congress.

“I will make a determination after conferring with my supporters, who have been instrumental in my past two GHMC elections,” said the Mayor.

During a courtesy meeting in the first week of February, the Mayor reiterated her commitment to the BRS with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

Daughter of BRS general secretary and MP K Keshav Rao, Gadwal Vijayalakshmi ran and won in the 2016 GHMC election on behalf of the BRS as a corporator of Banjara Hills. She repeated the victory in 2020 and went on to be elected mayor of Hyderabad.

In order to increase its influence in Greater Hyderabad, the Congress is concentrating on luring powerful figures from the BRS into the fold as part of “Operation Akarsh.”

The great old party seeks to solidify its dominance in the city even though it did not win any Assembly seats in the Greater Hyderabad boundaries, which include 24 Assembly constituencies. A few BRS corporators have already defected to the Congress, and more are anticipated to do so shortly.

Following the Friday meeting, BRS Rajya Sabha MP Kesava Rao was met by Vijayalaxmi and Deepa Dasmunsi. Kesava Rao was also invited by her to join the Congress. His reaction is still unclear, however.

A few weeks back, in Gandhi Bhavan, Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha Reddy, her husband Sobhan Reddy, a BRS leader, and former BRS Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiudding joined the Congress.
