Migrant killed by landslide in Ramban

According to the authorities, a landslide outside the corporate offices of a construction worker near Seri in the Ramban district struck him. The victim, identified as Deshpaul, was from Uttar Pradesh. When the event happened, he was heading into the company’s mess for breakfast, according to authorities. As the Jammu-Srinagar highway was closed, an Army battalion in the Banihal region of Ramban managed to rescue eighty-one college students and staff personnel. For the previous four days, the route has been obstructed by many landslides and stone explosions. The Army was informed that 74 students and seven employees of Mohanlal Sukhadia University’s Law College in Udaipur, Rajasthan, were stuck in the Banihal region.

According to the Army spokesman headquartered in Jammu, “74 students and seven members of the university staff were rescued.”

At the same time, routine traffic on the crucial route that connects the Valley with the rest of the nation remained stopped as efforts to clear the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) proceeded for a fourth day in a row. After the road was partially restored, only the stranded cars were permitted to continue. The 270-kilometer route between Nashri and Banihal was recently blocked by large landslides caused by recent heavy rain and snowfall.

According to the traffic police, the NH-44 has been partly reopened as a single-lane route.

81 people rescued from a highway

From the Banihal region of Ramban, the Army evacuated 81 students and staff members of a law institution located in Rajasthan. The Jammu-srinagar highway blockage has left them stranded.
