Minister of External Affairs Jaishankar meets the families of eight Indians on death row in Qatar

During a meeting with the families of the eight Indians being held in Qatar on Monday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized that every possibility is being considered by the government to secure their release and return.

“Had breakfast with the families of the eight Indians who are being held in Qatar. emphasized that the matter is of the utmost significance to the government. In a post on the social networking platform X, the Union minister said, “I fully share the concerns and pain of the families.”

Eight former Indian Navy officers were condemned to death by a Qatari court last week. The Indian nationals, who worked for Consultancy Services and Dahra Global Technologies, were arrested in August 2022 on suspicion of espionage. However, Qatari officials did not make public the allegations against them.

The military forces of Qatar get instruction from a private company called Dahra Global Technologies and Consultancy Services. The death row inmates from India advised the Qatari government on the purchase of submarines.

A further source claims that throughout the eight Indian nationals’ trial, New Delhi consular access was granted by Qatari officials.

The Indians on death row in Qatar are Captain Navtej Singh Gill, Captain Birendra Kumar Verma, Captain Saurabh Vasisht, Commander Amit Nagpal, Commander Purnendu Tiwari, Commander Sugunakar Pakala, Commander Sanjeev Gupta, and Sailor Ragesh. Major Indian warships have also been led by these retired individuals.

This month, Indian officials were anticipating another verdict. On October 3, the case’s seventh hearing was held. On October 1, the Indian ambassador to Qatar met with each of them.
